America's Industrial Revolution is commemorated at this park,  which includes the Suffolk Mill turbine and authentic "mill girl"  boarding houses. The main sight is the Boott Cotton Mills Museum, which  encloses a weave room of 88 operating looms. Altogether, the informative  exhibits document the Northeast s transition from farm to factory, as  well as the history of immigrant labor. The site was authorized on June  5, 1978.    
WHAT TO SEE & DO    
Guided and self-guided tours. Facilities: Visitor center,  museum, movie. Programs & Events: Exhibits, self-guided tours.  Trolley tours (MarNov.), boat and walking tours (weekends late May-late  June, daily late June-mid-Oct; reservations required), museum talks  (late May-mid-Oct.). Kids Week (Feb., Apr), Lowell Women's Week, (1st  week, Mar.), Lowell Folk Festival (last full weekend, July), Lowell  Summer Music Festival (July and Aug.), National Park Day (Aug. 25),  Banjo and Fiddle Contests (Sept.). Tips & Hints: Tours go out rain  or shine. Busiest May-July, least crowded Dec.-Feb.    
FEES, HOURS & REGULATIONS    
Free. Canal tours: $6 adults; $4 ages 6-16, $5 ages 62 and over,  free ages 5 and under. Trolley tours free. Boott Cotton Mills Museum:  $4 adults, $2 ages 6-16, $3 ages 62 and over, free ages 5 and under. No  eating, drinking, or smoking in buildings. Visitor center open  Sept.-late June, daily 9-5; late June-Aug., 9-5:45. Boott Cotton Mills  Museum open daily 9-5.    
HOW TO GET THERE    
In Lowell, via the Lowell Connector from either 1-495 or Rte. 3;  exit on Thorndike St. north, turn right on Dutton St. to marked parking  lot. Closest airport: Boston (25 mi).
