Mingan Archipelago, Quebec

Established: 1984   Acreage: 23,880

The Mingan Archipelago contains some 40 islands in a narrow band in the Gulf of St Lawrence, east of Sept-lles and north of Anticosti Island. The islands are a unique land of fragile beauty, with unusual rock pillars sculpted by the wind and sea and rare plants and flowers found nowhere else in Canada. Puffins and other seabirds nest on these limestone isles, while porpoises, seals and whales feed in the fertile offshore waters.

Visitors to the Mingan Archipelago can enjoy guided water tours, primitive camping, and boating—on a charter or on their own boat. There are no facilities within the park reserve; visitor centers are located on the mainland in Havre-St-Pierre and nearby villages.
