Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was  born on Sinking Spring Farm on February 12, 1809, and today nearly  one-third of the farm is preserved at this National Historic Site. The  memorial overlooks Sinking Spring, the water source for the original  348-acre property. The park was  authorized July 17, 1916 and designated as a national historical site on  September 8, 1959.
