This fascinating, musically oriented park serves up the sights, sounds, and settings from where jazz first evolved in America. Elaborate exhibits on the origins, early history, development, and progression of jazz are found throughout the site. Indoor and outdoor stages host a range of live performances, and visitors are invited to participate in interpretive music programs. The park was authorized on October 31, 1994.
WHAT TO SEE & DO
Attending concerts, participating in music programs, watching parades, demonstrations, videos. Facilities: Visitor center, movies, guided tours. Book-and-gift shop. Programs & Events: Jazz workshops, conferences, guest lectures, live concerts, jazz-theme walking tours of the French Quarter. Tips & Hints: In late 2003, construction began on the park's new permanent facility in Louis Armstrong Park. Busiest Oct. and Apr.; least crowded July and Aug.

Free. Visitor center open Tues.-Sat. 9-5.

In New Orleans via 1-10 to Exit 236 Esplanade, south to Decatur St., and west to N. Peters St., or via 1-10 to Exit 235 Canal, south to Decatur St., and east to N. Peters St.
